JavaZone 2025

Javazone 2025

All roads lead to Rome… or to Lillestrøm, in this case.

Once again, JavaZone has come and gone – but this time at a brand-new venue. Due to renovations at Oslo Spektrum, this year’s conference was held at Nova Spektrum in Lillestrøm. We at Creative Technology are both proud and grateful to have once again been chosen as the technical supplier for one of the world’s largest Java conferences.

The move from Oslo to Lillestrøm didn’t just change our daily commute - it also brought a host of logistical questions, new opportunities, and of course, a fair share of challenges.

“With twice the space, new partners, and new routines, there were many pieces that had to fall into place. In a process like this, it’s incredibly reassuring to have a long-standing collaboration with Creative Technology – a team that knows us well and has solid experience with the venue,” says Marianne Røed, Project Manager at Macsimum.

Each year, JavaBin invites thousands of attendees to the volunteer-driven JavaZone conference – and each year, they are welcomed by a brand-new, fun theme. This time, Nova Spektrum was transported more than 2000 years back in time, to the Roman Empire and ancient Rome!

Creative Technology has been involved with JavaZone for several years now, and planning for 2025 started almost immediately after last year’s event wrapped up. Meetings were held, the first concept sketches were created, and when this year’s theme was finalized in January, the real work began.

“JavaZone is truly in a league of its own compared to other design projects I get to work on,”

says Sindre Steig, designer at Creative Technology and the creative mind behind this year’s centerpiece.

“It allows me to unleash my creativity and design something truly unique every year. As soon as one event wraps, my mind is already racing with ideas for the next!”

The image shows a draft of this year’s centerpiece, drawn by Sindre Steig.

As always, the iconic centerpiece stood proudly at the heart of the main hall. This year’s version was an impressive structure inspired by ancient Roman architecture, seamlessly combined with modern technology – including LED screens, lighting, and sound.

“In previous years, we placed a large PA system on top of the centerpiece, but this time we felt it disrupted the visual impact,” explains Sindre.

“So, we had to rethink the entire setup and realized that we actually didn’t need such a large system. This allowed us to go for a more compact audio solution – and we even found smart ways to hide cables and equipment within the columns.”

After the event, the feedback was clear: attendees were very happy with the sound quality and volume. The new solution also made it easier to hold conversations in the expo area and let the centerpiece shine without any visual distractions. It’s a solution we’ll definitely build on for future events.

In addition to the centerpiece, Creative Technology delivered full technical support across the entire event: the expo area, workshops, lecture halls, the opening show, and evening concerts — including one by Ylvis. In other words: a complete technical delivery from start to finish.

“We receive excellent support and project management from Hans Peter and his team. Creative Technology is always solution-oriented and attentive to our needs – whether it’s drawings, venue setups, or technical systems. That gives us the peace of mind to focus on everything else, knowing we’re in safe hands. You helped us turn a challenging transition into a success, and we’re very glad to have you as our partner,”

Marianne Røed, Project Manager at Macsimum.

The collaboration between Macsimum, JavaBin, and Creative Technology isn’t just about equipment and deadlines – it’s about mutual trust, a shared vision, and a creative thinking. After working closely together for many years, a dynamic has developed where everyone supports and challenges one another, and together, we create something greater than the sum of its parts. That’s something we truly value.

“What makes working with Macsimum and JavaBin so rewarding is the close, collaborative spirit. There’s a shared commitment to making the experience as good as it can be. It’s about creating something fun, meaningful, and enjoyable for everyone involved. It’s also fantastic that they trust us enough to be part of shaping the concept and exploring how our solutions can enhance the event. This has become one of those projects that our team is genuinely excited to be a part of,” says Hans Peter Jenssen, project manager for this year’s JavaZone.

Thank you so much to JavaBin, Macsimum and everyone involved – we are already looking forward to next year!
