Petri Tikkinen, Project Manager at Creative Technology Finland, is a seasoned expert in the field of event technology. With over 25 years of experience in the industry, his journey at CT has included many phases, and he’s been with us for 12 years, dating back to Eastway Ltd. times. Having spent much of his career as an AV technician, Tikkinen transitioned to the role of project manager in 2019, back when CT Finland was still known as Bright. Petri has worked on a wide variety of projects, from virtual events during the pandemic, and Juha Tapio’s tour, to the Nordic Business Forum.
How did you originally get into the industry?
I actually entered the field by complete chance. My friend and colleague Antti Hietala, who was working at RGB Ltd. at the time, called and asked if I could help out at a gig. He asked me to jump straight in as a cameraman, even though I had no prior experience in the field of event technology. The year was 1998, and the event was AKK’s motorsport gala. Apparently, the gig went well, because here I am, almost 26 years later.
What has been the most significant turning point in your career so far?
I worked as a technician for around 20 years before transitioning to a project manager role about six years ago. This shift has been the most significant turning point in my career because my job description changed so drastically. I’ve been really happy with the change, and I believe my long career as an AV technician has greatly benefited me in my role as a project manager. I now understand much more about the projects than I would have without my technical background.
What does your work involve?
My work involves comprehensive project management – I’m essentially the CEO of each project I’m responsible for. I plan the technical details of the events with the tech support, manage the project budget, and ensure everything runs according to plan. A large and important part of my job is interacting with clients and making sure they are satisfied when the event is over.
