Taru Taskinen is a key player in Creative Technology Finland’s (CT) video department. Most of her working days are spent editing event recordings at the office, and some days she spends working behind the camera at various events. We interviewed her about her wide experience in the industry.

How did you initially end up working in the event industry and at CT Finland?

I was in vocational school in 2000 to study audiovisual communications. It was clear from the start that the video and editing departments interested me the most in this field.

During my studies, I got an internship at the then RGB Oy (now CT). My intention was to go on to further studies in film productions, but after my internship ended in the summer of 2004, I was offered a permanent contract. I haven’t regretted a single day and have really enjoyed my time at CT.

What does your job at CT include?

Most of the days I am at the Vantaa office busy with editing event recordings as well as scheduling and coordinating editing tasks. I archive all the recordings from the productions accordingly and manage the archive. As a counterbalance to sitting at the office with editing tasks, I also work at events as a camera operator, filming events as well as building and dismantling the video side of events.

What has been the most memorable event production you have been involved in for work?

It’s hard to name one specific memorable event, there are so many. I remember my first festival/concert job (where I was filming) was Tuuri Miljoona Rock in 2004, which was then organized for the first time. It was great to see Scorpions live, and to get to film the band’s performance!

Rap artist Cheek’s concert at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium in 2014 was also very memorable. We were setting up the concert in a horrible rainy weather for a week. The feeling was absolutely wonderful when we saw and experienced the end result after all that hard work.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is definitely the people. Professional, lovely and helpful colleagues. I have always thought that although my work itself is enjoyable and rewarding for me, the best thing about work is the people with whom I spend my work days. We have so much fun at work and I can trust my colleagues completely. Teamwork is key in this field of work.

How has the event technology industry changed during the years?

Technology has developed tremendously in the last decades, but also the professionalism and know-how of the industry have evolved a lot from 2004 when I started working with event technology. It is amazing to have a close-up view of today’s innovative event productions. The professionalism can really be seen and heard alongside the development of the technology.

How do you see the future of events?

The future of events looks good! All the time, producers want to make a more impressive and comprehensive experience for the public. I can’t wait to see where events will develop from here.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I love to spend time with my 16-year-old son. Friends and family are really important to me and in my free time I enjoy spending time with them, relaxing at our summer cottage and enjoying good food and wine.
