The host and three speakers were present at the Green Screen studio, while two speakers joined remotely from their homes and the keynote speaker participated from a studio in the Netherlands. The client’s stage manager worked closely with the moderator to keep the live broadcast running precisely on schedule, and each presentation was followed by a live discussion with the speakers. With audio latency kept under one second, conversations flowed naturally between the different locations.
We delivered the technical production of the event in collaboration with Streamteam and Broadcast Solutions, both pioneers of virtual studio solutions in the Finnish broadcast industry. The studio’s virtual environment was built using technology familiar from the gaming world, based on Unreal Engine and integrated into Zero Density, enabling a highly realistic visual world, complete with lighting and shadows, to be combined with traditional live streaming. The virtual environment, as well as the viewer landing page, could be fully customised to reflect the client’s branding and event identity.
The webcasting platform used by Creative Technology (formerly Bright) enabled live interaction, allowing viewers to submit comments, ask questions, and participate in polls throughout the broadcast. To create a familiar setting for presenters, the studio was equipped with conventional presentation tools, including presentation computers, speaker monitors, clickers, and timers, supporting them in delivering demanding content with confidence.
The video production extended beyond the studio itself, as remote presenters were seamlessly integrated into the broadcast via network connections from various locations across Finland and abroad.
Three cameras were used in the studio, including a virtual crane camera moving dynamically within the digital environment, adding energy to the broadcast and showcasing the virtual world in greater detail. The remaining pedestal-mounted cameras captured close-up shots of the speakers.
Solita Frontline Summit was successfully delivered again in 2021 as a virtual event, continuing from Creative Technology’s Green Screen studio production model.
