Traditional TV studios have remained largely unchanged for years, relying on fixed sets and, more recently, green-screen environments. But LED technology has shifted the benchmark. High-performance LED displays now offer broadcasters a more flexible, controllable and visually cohesive solution, one that supports both creative ambition and technical precision.
To explore this in a practical setting, our Systems Integration, Creative Services and Live Events teams combined their expertise to build a complete mock studio environment. The space featured ROE Visual LED, Sony broadcast cameras, an AI-driven tracking camera and a Blackmagic URSA. This allowed us to trial real-world scenarios, compare how different systems behave, and highlight the considerations that matter when working with LED as a live backdrop.
Verve joined us on the day, bringing their own experience from the projects we regularly collaborate on. Together, we examined how LED behaves on camera, how lighting strategies need to adapt, and why factors like pixel pitch, refresh rate and colour response play such a crucial role in the final image. We also looked closely at Moiré, what causes it, how camera sensors interact with LED surfaces, and the practical steps that can prevent it. Discussions evolved naturally into camera distances, lens selection and how each camera system interprets the same environment in its own way.
Sessions like this just show the value of shared learning between creative teams and technical specialists. The more aligned we are at the planning stage, the stronger the experience becomes.
