The concept was ambitious: take SHEE’s own catalogue of house tracks and completely reimagine them for spatial sound. The result would place the audience not in front of the music, but inside it, surrounded by shifting layers of synths, percussion and vocals that moved fluidly through space.
To bring the idea to life, SHEE collaborated with John Gale, our Head of Audio at Creative Technology. A seasoned live sound engineer, John has spent years at the forefront of immersive performance, most notably as Björk’s front-of-house engineer on her Cornucopia tour, which first introduced him to d&b Soundscape. His expertise in spatial mixing made him the ideal partner to help translate SHEE’s creative vision into a live, fully enveloping experience.
“If you’ve ever sat in a cinema with surround sound or Dolby Atmos, you’ll have a rough idea,” John explained. “But with Soundscape, we can take every sound — vocals, synths, hi-hats, a single clap — and move it anywhere in the room. Above you, behind you, beside you. It’s total freedom, and it completely changes how an audience feels the music.” – John Gale, speaking with Redbull
