Updating the JDC2 Firmware from GLP at Creative Technology

Released by German Light Products (GLP), firmware version 2.0.3 represents the most significant development to the JDC2 platform since its introduction. At the heart of the update is a new canvas-based positioning workflow for DigiFX and NDI content, letting programmers treat multiple fixtures as a single creative surface rather than programming each unit independently. For large-scale productions, that changes how visual content is mapped, positioned, and manipulated across JDC2 arrays, supporting pixel-accurate effects, video playback, and synchronized content across entire installations.

Alongside the canvas workflow, GLP has added a set of control, programming, and diagnostic enhancements aimed at touring programmers and high-level production environments.

Firmware V2.0.3 introduces several additional improvements, including:

• New Strobe Cycle at Zero options: Reset and Continuous
• New Rate / Duration Cycle options: Restart, Finish, and Smart
• Additional flash styles: Normal and Spark
• Expanded PWM settings through the control channel
• Network port status now displayed directly on the fixture’s main screen
• Manual DMX control added for easier testing and setup
• New DMX input monitoring functionality for faster diagnostics

Refining DigiFX and NDI Control

Beyond the coordinate-based canvas itself, V2.0.3 refines the underlying DigiFX and NDI control and manipulation workflows, giving designers and programmers more flexibility when integrating video content with the JDC2’s LED and strobe capabilities.

The firmware upgrade can be completed using a smartphone or tablet with a standard USB-C to Ethernet adapter, so no GLP-specific hardware is required. GLP’s own team tested the process with a UGREEN adapter without issue. A GLP iQ tool is also required to complete the update.

Because of the expanded DigiFX and NDI control architecture, GLP has revised the JDC2’s DMX channel layout in this release. Core fixture functions and individual segment control remain unchanged, but the new firmware is not backward-compatible with existing show files or patches that use DigiFX or NDI functionality therefore productions using these features will need to be re-patched and reconfigured after updating.
