Creative Technology Pushes the Boundaries of Live Production at Etihad Arena for Hans Zimmer Live's Final Show

The final stop of the Hans Zimmer Live 2025 tour arrived in Abu Dhabi with breathtaking impact. Held at the iconic Etihad Arena, this emotionally charged and technically masterful performance transcended traditional concerts through creating a fully immersive celebration of cinematic sound. Zimmer’s most beloved and iconic film scores came alive through a rich setup of light, video, and orchestral grandeur, enveloping audiences in a multi-sensory journey that redefined live entertainment with innovative solutions. Creative Technology Middle East proudly provided the technical production for this unforgettable evening, seamlessly blending precision engineering with cutting-edge technology to honor Zimmer’s legendary compositions.

Hans Zimmer, one of the most celebrated film composers of modern time, has garnered an impressive collection of accolades throughout his career—including two Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, three Golden Globes, and a BAFTA. His groundbreaking work has shaped the soundscape of modern cinema, and his live performances are renowned for their emotional depth and cinematic grandeur. Matching this brilliance on tour, acclaimed lighting designer John Featherstone from Lightswitch brings Zimmer’s music to life visually, creating a stunning visual atmosphere that perfectly complements Zimmer’s iconic composition by being technically masterful and emotionally resonant. In recognition of his work on the Hans Zimmer Live tour, Featherstone received the prestigious Nook Schoenfeld Lighting Designer of the Year award at the 23rd Annual Parnelli Awards. Together, their award-winning artistry delivered an unforgettable live experience.

The production unveiled a stunning display of lighting innovation, powered by Creative Technology’s expansive inventory of cutting-edge fixtures. At its core were 168 Robe MegaPointe units, delivering high-intensity beams that pulsed in lockstep with Hans Zimmer’s orchestral peaks. Complementing them were 36 Robe iFORTE LTX WB fixtures, providing dynamic wash coverage that evolved in tone and intensity to mirror the film scores’ emotional rhythm. Adding further depth, 56 Ayrton Cobra units introduced rich textures and layered complexity to the visual narrative. An additional 58 Robe Tetra fixtures brought precision and movement, etching intricate lighting patterns across the venue. Rounding out the setup were Elation KL PAR FC IP fixtures and Astera FP6 HydraPanel LEDs, compact yet powerful tools that ensured full coverage and creative flexibility from every angle.

A standout innovation in the production was its advanced follow spot system, which combined 9 Robe iFORTE LTX Follow Spot cameras with 10 Robe iFORTE LTX WB fixtures configured for remote follow spot control. This setup enabled lighting operators to track performers with pinpoint accuracy from multiple vantage points across the venue, resulting in dramatic, dynamic highlights that underscored key musical moments with cinematic flair. At the heart of this system was Robe’s RoboSpot technology, which allowed for seamless remote operation, bringing a new level of flexibility and precision to live follow spotting.

The result? A smooth, artistically timed spotlighting that matched the emotional and visual intensity of Hans Zimmer’s cinematic compositions.

Controlling this setup was a GrandMA 3 network, featuring three full-size consoles, one light console, and four NPU L processing units. The system ran on Luminex GigaCore switches, delivering rock-solid data distribution across hundreds of lighting fixtures. Together, this control backbone enabled flawless real-time synchronization between lighting and music throughout the performance.

Creative Technology deployed a robust multi-camera video system designed to document the historic performance. The core setup featured four Panasonic UC4000 channels delivering premium 4K broadcast quality, supported by three Panasonic AW-UE150 WEJ 4K PTZ cameras for flexible, remote-controlled angles. Topping that, 11 Marshall CV-503-WP Mini HD cameras were discreetly placed around the venue, capturing intimate details of both the orchestra and audience, enhancing the overall narrative with rich visual depth. At the heart of the video system was a Ross Ultrix Carbonite 4K 2ME production switcher, enabling smooth transitions across camera feeds.

To maintain seamless communication across all departments, the production utilized Riedel’s Artist intercom system, anchored by 40 Bolero wireless units and multiple Artist control panels. This setup enabled crystal-clear, instant coordination between lighting, video, and audio teams operating across the expansive venue. Supplementing the system, 30 Motorola R7 UHF radios ensured additional coverage during build, rehearsals, and live execution; critical for a production of this scale and complexity.

As the final notes of Hans Zimmer’s score reverberated through Etihad Arena, the moment transcended music. It was a masterclass in live production, where stunning visuals, flawless technical execution, and shared audience emotion converged to create an unforgettable experience. Creative Technology was proud to play a pivotal role in this milestone event, delivering a technical production that redefined the boundaries of live entertainment. From cutting-edge lighting systems and remotely operated follow spots to multi-camera cinematic capture and a robust communications backbone, every element was precisely orchestrated to support Zimmer’s legendary compositions.

These Abu Dhabi performances on May 31 and June 1st, 2025, stand as a benchmark in live entertainment technology, converging Creative Technology’s extensive equipment resources with deep technical expertise. The seamless integration of advanced lighting, video, and comms infrastructure created an immersive audiovisual environment that elevated both the performance and the audience experience.
