The Liberation Festivals have been a landmark event in the Netherlands for over 30 years. Every year, approximately one million people celebrate freedom on May 5th, across 14 festivals in every province. This makes it the largest single-day cultural event in the Netherlands. From Groningen to Vlissingen, Creative Technology delivered video solutions for 13 festivals.
Every city has its own organisation, its own venue and its own goals. Together with the local organisers, we determine the best video solution for each festival: a mobile LED unit, a fixed LED installation on location, or an extensive or basic camera setup. We make sure it matches the objectives of the organisers. Coordinating thirteen cities in one day requires people, equipment and years of experience.
The national celebration closed with the May 5th concert on the Amstel in Amsterdam. The stage was built next to the Royal Theatre Carré, on the Jan Vinckbrug. A floating stage on the water, the orchestra on the bridge. We built the LED screen above the bridge and an LED confidence monitor for the presenters. The concert was broadcast live on national television.
On May 4th, the Netherlands commemorated its war victims with two minutes of silence. Every year, the National Remembrance ceremony takes place at Dam Square in Amsterdam, broadcast live on national television. As we do every year, our crew delivered two LED screens so everyone at Dam Square could follow the ceremony.
