Java Zone 2023

At 8 o’clock, September 6th, Oslo Spektrum opened their doors to a sea of excited conference goers, and officially welcomed them to Java Zone 2023.

Java Zone is the largest community-driven Java conference for modern developers in Europe. The conference marked it’s 22nd year this year, and once again invited to mingling, food, inspiring talks around technology – and most importantly, two days of massive fun. The conference kicked off with a massive opening show, featuring flame eaters, acrobats, clowns and more. And, of course, the countdown on the two 360-degree LED-screen, dressed as a circus tent, placed in the middle of the hall, delivered by Creative Technology.

The theme for this year’s conference was circus, and on their website, the organizer explains this choice the following way:

“First, the circus is all about having a good time with great people, and that’s what JavaZone is all about too! Just like the circus, we want to showcase the amazing skills and talents of our speakers, partners, and attendees, and provide an environment where everyone can learn, grow, and be inspired.”

They also point out the fact that this theme mirrors JavaZone’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, as well as it hopefully would inspire the attendees to relax, have a good time and make lasting connections with each other over the duration of the conference.

And with such an extravagant theme, Oslo Spektrum naturally had to be transformed to a circus – a challenging, yet exciting task.

“We always have large dreams and visions, but since we only have two days of rigging, it’s great and important to receive the expertise of Creative Technology. Not everyone knows that Oslo Spektrum in and of itself, is a pretty boring venue; large, empty and gray, without any stuff – therefore it’s nice to have CT on board to create the atmosphere we’re looking for.” says Victoria Wiese from Macsimum, who was responsible for concept design for this year’s conference.

Our team, led by Pål Espen Johanessen, and in collaboration with Macsimum, had two days to totally transform Oslo Spektrum. To achieve this, Creative Technology delivered 7 parallel conference halls, 5 workshop halls, a large expo area and of course the rig and the technology of the opening show, offering circus and good vibes. Janece Mack Roald from Macsimum praises our team and their work:

“Pål Espen and the crew contributes gladly with input and suggestions for improvement. Solutions are offered on the spot, and together we create elements making the attendees’ experience even better.”

Java Zone 2023 was yet another great collaboration with our good friends at Macsimum, which we have collaborated with on an array of different projects for many years now. These projects always offer exciting challenges that require creative solutions, which is the very heart of our work.

“Macsimum has for several years collaborated with Creative Technology on conferences we facilitate in Oslo Spektrum. The strength of our collaboration is the security of having a stable supplier who knows us and our way of working.

JavaZone is always a fun and challenging conference project, as they change design and look every year. CT is always involved early in the creative process of planning, among other things, the Expo, the halls and the organizer’s stand, as there are many considerations to take into account in such a large rig. What starts with creative thoughts and ideas, is realized with technical expertise and advice. We like to think CT appreciates being challenged with a new rig every year. And when the result is so good, both we and the organizer are super satisfied.” Says Anette Aas Flølo, project manager for Macsimum, about our collaboration.

A major thanks to Macsimum, who we are so lucky to be able to work with, we can’t wait until our next collaboration! JavaZone 2023 was a massive success, and made work into a party!
