Apple at Battersea Power Station

Creative Technology were brought on by Done + Dusted to technically design and deliver Apple’s 50th birthday celebration at Battersea Power Station; a site as challenging as it is iconic.

The brief covered full‑scale projection onto both Battersea chimneys, an LED IMAG system for the stage area where Mumford & Sons performed, and a control setup capable of running everything smoothly and reliably.

To prepare the building for projection, the Power Station was LiDAR scanned, allowing the team to accurately UV‑map the chimneys ahead of time. That preparation paid off on site. Using Photon media servers and projection mapping hardware, the full projection line‑up was completed in around six hours; no small task given the size and complexity of the structure.

A lot of the heavy lifting happened before anyone arrived on site. CT’s internal technical teams worked closely during pre‑production, using tools like Mapping Matters to plan projection positions, tower designs and sightlines in detail. This meant that once the crew arrived, everyone knew exactly what needed to happen and when, keeping things efficient despite tight access windows.

For the live and broadcast side of the show, two ground‑supported LED IMAG screens were built using ROE BQ4.6 panels, totalling 100m². These screens carried live broadcast graphics alongside bespoke Apple content, leading into the reveal of the Apple ‘hero’ logo; a moment mirrored across the chimney projections. It became a standout visual for both Apple and Done + Dusted, designed with social distribution firmly in mind.

The system as a whole was driven using Photon servers and a Barco E2, with Creative Technology supplying 28 Panasonic RQ35K projectors to achieve the required brightness and consistency across the chimneys.

The project was delivered by a 16‑strong CT crew working across day and night shifts. Time was one of the biggest pressures. There were just four weeks from confirmation to delivery, and a very limited window for projection line‑up. Managing client expectations while working under that level of pressure was critical.

For Creative Technology, projecting onto Battersea Power Station for the first time carried real weight. It was essential to get it right.

As Connie Glover from Creative Technology puts it:
“Being given the opportunity to project onto Battersea was a huge moment — not just for my career, but for CT as a company. Done + Dusted trust us completely on technical delivery, and this project really showed the strength of our in‑house team and what we’re capable of when it matters.”

The success of Project Vector came down to clear planning, strong technical knowledge and a team that thrives under pressure; turning a complex, high‑profile brief into a clean and confident delivery.
